Your definitely don’t want to use red, it causes excitation.
Pale blue and green are soothing colors, but they are cold.
Yellow is good for stimulating mental activity, and if the space is cold.
    Peach is warm and soothing.
Blue, violet, and green give a sense of spaciousness.

Stay away from dark colors as they make the space look smaller. Light colors give an illusion of spaciousness.

Since you say the area is small, I would stay away from fussy designs and patterns. Keep it simple with one all-over color or a vertical stripe wallpaper.
    Spotlighting could make it cosy.

Since the area is small and a place to relax, I personally would go with a light cool color, such as a white, egg shell, french vanilla, very very light blue or green….
Then I would add some mirrors and paintings and pictures. The light color and mirriors will help to make the room seem bigger. the paintings and pictures not only add to the room but something to look at when relaxing.

Go with the blues and greens that are common in the Florida Keys…very relaxing, I want to say seascape colors, but I don’t want to say nautical or cape cod or something. Blue is a relaxing color, but it is a cool color.

If the room will be on the cold side, golds, reds yellow and purples maybe better, make if feel warmer.

go with the interior designer for colors..i totally agree!
but for the furniture…it depends how old the people who are hanging out are. put in a tv..medium sized, a stereo, maybe a small fridge to put snacks in, and make sure that you have a couple of cute lounge chairs, and a loveseat. stay away from a big couch because that will take up too much room.
    good luck!

Green is a very relaxing color, not bright!
Your trim should be off white or a light beige
Furniture, maybe wicker in the light beige color
Rocking chair for sure with a flowered seat cushion with both colors in it
    Good luck and have fun

a light cool color, such as a white,
egg shell, french vanilla, soft sky
light blue, soft peach. No flowers or lines,
dots that will make the room smaller.

    Thick carpet thick pad underneath.

Use lace for window to keep it airy and light.
Lots of pillows and low endtable to promote
a laid back feeling of casualness.

a small fridge to put snacks in so you dont
have to travel 3 flights of stairs.

We lived in three levels when the kids were
young. we also had a up basket and a down basket.
For if you were going upstairs take the up basket
and deposit the things there on the table. on the
way downstairs bring the down bascket. We had an
attic play room we hung plastic roses upside down from
20 lb test line at different lengths. and craft paper
butterflies. we bought bright pink, purple, and yellow
carpet and made a hopscotch board and a bowling area.
the far wal was painted with Chalkboard paint. we
trimed it with wood finish strips.
